Located in the northeastern corner of Maryland near the Delaware state line is a small town known as Cecilton. Cecilton is positioned in Cecil County and had a population of almost 700 people in 2016 according to the United States Census Bureau. It is the smallest town in the Cecil County.
In 1633, Augustine Herman arrived in America. Herman constructed Lord of Bohemia Manor in Cecil County and served as the first lord. During his time in American, Herman made several attempts to construct a town and name it in honor of his friend Cecilius Calvert who lived in the lower part of Cecil County. Although Herman was not successful, a descendant of Herman established a town. The town would later become modern-day Cecilton. If it were not for the tireless efforts of Augustine Herman and his descendants, Cecilton would not be in existence today.
Individuals who visit Cecilton will discover a quaint, rural community. Cecilton is supported by agriculture and summer residents. Farmland stretches for many miles around the community due to a large amount of land that has been placed in agricultural preservation programs. Located north and south of Cecilton are the Sassafras and Bohemia Rivers and to the west is the Chesapeake Bay. The beautiful rural location of Cecilton and the nearby outdoor attractions bring great seasonal tourism to the town. In the town, visitors find locally owned shops and restaurants and a friendly community atmosphere. Truly, Cecilton is the ideal small town.
