Millington is a small town positioned in Kent and Queen Anne’s counties in the Eastern Shore region of Maryland. It is located 80 miles east of Baltimore and 80 miles east of Washington, District of Columbia. As of 2016, there were approximately 613 people living in Millington in 2016. It is the 4th largest town in Queen Anne’s County.
Millington was chartered as a town in 1798. Original inhabitants of the area the town is located in were Native American Indians. Eventually, European settlers arrived in the area and quickly took control of the land. Millington was originally known as Head of Chester. The name was changed to Bridgetown around 1724. In 1818, the town became known as Millington and the name has not changed since.
Modern-day Millington, Maryland is a quaint, rural town. According to the town website, “Millington is a walkable, self-contained town with a clear rural character and atmosphere.” Located in Millington are two parks and a skateboard park. These provided outdoor entertainment for families and children. Residents of Millington are provided recreational opportunities at the head of the Chester River. Public fishing areas are situated along the river, giving residents and visitors of the town access to multiple fishing spots. Despite its small size, there are many things to see and do in Millington.
